How to find

Ort Runes may be among the extra Runes that the Countess drops on any given difficulty.
The reward for defeating Hellforge on standard difficulty is a 1 in 11 chance of dropping an Ort Rune.
You can obtain a Ral, an Ort, and a Tal rune by completing the Rescue on Mount Arreat mission.

Modifiers & Effects

Weapons

Adds 1–50 Lightning Damage

Armor, Helms & Shields

Lightning Resistance 30% (Armor)
Lightning Resistance 35% (Shields)

Effects

Unless it was previously higher, an item socketed with an Ort Rune raises the item’s level requirement to 21.

Horadric Recipes

One Thul rune can be created by transmuting three Ort runes.
To construct created Hit Power gloves, you can transmute magic chain gloves or exceptional/elite version (heavy bracers or vambraces), a jewel, an Ort rune, and a perfect sapphire.
To build a handmade Blood weapon, you can transmute an Ort rune, a perfect ruby, a jewel, and a magic axe.
To construct created Caster gloves, you can transmute magic leather gloves or exceptional/elite versions (bramble mitts or demonhide gloves), a jewel, an Ort rune, and a perfect amethyst.
To construct created Safety boots, you can convert magic greaves or exceptional/elite variant (war boots or myrmidon greaves), a jewel, an Ort rune, and a perfect emerald.
To upgrade a rare weapon from its base weapon type to its exceptional variant, convert a basic rare weapon, an Ort rune, an Amn rune, and a perfect sapphire.
A non-ethereal weapon and an Ort rune can be transmuted to restore the weapon’s durability.
The durability and skill charges of a non-ethereal weapon can be restored by transmuting it along with an Ort rune and a chipped gem.
