Heroes of the Storm

Best Heroes of the Storm characters 2024 for beginners

Hey, I’m Zathong and is will share about Top 10 best Heroes of the Storm (HoTS) characters 2024 for beginners.

Top 10 Heroes of the Storm characters

Best characters in Heroes of the Storm are: Valla, Brightwing, Stitches, Johanna, Anub’arak, Dehaka, D.Va, Gazlowe, Rexxar, Sonya,… These characters are currently extremely strong. If you can pick, you’ll have somewhat of a head-start in the game.

Valla

Pros:

  • Good waveclear.
  • Good poke.
  • Versatile; fits any team composition.
  • Strong in all phases of the game.
  • Very high single-target and area of effect damage.

Cons:

  • Low base Health.
  • Vulnerable to crowd control.
  • Dependent on good positioning.

Gameplay:

Valla is a highly versatile and sustained Ranged Assassin who can whittle down the enemies with fast auto attacks. Hatred empowers Valla’s Basic Attacks and increases her movement speed. This allows her to put an extreme amount of pressure on anything within her Basic Attack range. Her fast base attack speed somewhat helps with this, however, stutter-stepping truly is the key to making the most out of Hatred, and Valla as a whole. Her on-demand area of effect damage and poke allow her to reliably deal damage in all situations. However, her relative fragility makes her a high priority target for the enemy.

Brightwing

Pros:

  • Solid healing with Soothing Mist.
  • Pixie Dust has a lot of uses.
  • Fantastic counter to a lot of enemy heroics with Polymorph.
  • Able to almost instantly help out allies with Phase Shift.

Cons:

  • Very squishy.
  • Has no burst until level 10.
  • Phase Shift can be interrupted.
  • Blink Heal doesn’t heal much for a Heroic.
  • A lot slower than other heroes.

Gameplay:

Don’t get caught out alone due to the lack of escape.

Try to make sure you stay with a Warrior or Assassin at all times unless you’re going off to bribe a merc camp.

In the late game, try to never be alone, Brightwing is at her best when with her allies.

If the other team has a Lili or a Malfurion keeping their them alive in fights, don’t be afraid to Polymorph the Support over the Warrior or Assassin.

Try to always be aware of what’s going on in the rest of the map and be ready to phase shift onto allies who need help. One of the biggest things that makes a bad Brightwing player is someone with poor map awareness.

Stitches

Pros

  • Massive Health.
  • Strong self-sustain with Devour.
  • Hook can pull allied Heroes out of danger, or into otherwise advantageous positions.

Cons

  • Lacks peel.
  • Lacks hard crowd control.
  • Lacks gap closers.

Gameplay:

Stitches is a low-mobility Tank, capable of pulling distant Heroes to him with Hook. Stitches has a lot of Health, and a powerful self-sustain with Devour. He works best with Heroes who can follow up Hook with strong crowd control, which will help to secure picks throughout the game.

Johanna

Pros

  • Extremely resilient.
  • Iron Skin absorbs a significant amount of damage, preventing crowd control from affecting you.
  • Condemn provides very good waveclear.

Cons

  • Can be kited by most ranged Heroes.
  • Very little burst damage.
  • Low mobility and no gap-closer.
  • Relatively weak early game.
  • Poor peeling when compared to other Tanks.

Gameplay:

Johanna is a low-mobility, extremely resilient Tank, capable of Blinding, Slowing, Stunning, and pulling enemies. She excels at creating chaos and disruption in the midst of the enemy team for extended periods of time, rather than peeling for her allies, as is typical of other Tanks. Her disruptions are all AoE and therefore more effective when used against multiple enemies.

Anub’arak

Pros:

  • High mitigation against ability based heroes.
  • Excellent initiator and diver.
  • Several long-range crowd control and interruption Abilities.
  • Beetles can block skillshots and structure damage.

Cons:

  • Main Abilities are skillshots that can be avoided.
  • Relatively fragile to Physical Damage Dealer.
  • Limited damage dealing potential.

Gameplay:

Anub’arak is an aggressive Tank who specializes against Mages. His strongest points are his long-range Crowd controls and high resistance to Ability-based damage. Although considered an archetypal tank, his Health pool is significantly lower than that of other tanks; Anub’arak must therefore rely on his summons and Abilities to survive in battle. Finding the right time to initiate, peel, and pressure isolated Heroes while avoiding dangerous situations are the skills that one should develop in order to become a strong Anub’arak player.

Dehaka

Pros

  • Good waveclear.
  • Cannot be body-blocked while using Dark Swarm.
  • Can avoid incoming Abilities with Burrow.
  • Powerful on demand self healing.
  • Can Drag enemies out of position.
  • High map mobility via Brushstalker.

Cons:

  • Drag and Isolation are difficult skillshots.
  • Limited mobility when Brushstalker is on cooldown.
  • Lacks a reliable gap-closer.
  • Susceptible to kiting.

Gameplay:

Dehaka is an aggressive Warrior with a strong map presence. Powerful self-sustain from Essence Collection makes him very hard to kill. Dark Swarm enables him to break apart enemy formations during fights, while his brutal single target crowd control can incapacitate key targets.

D.Va

Pros:

  • Solid initiation.
  • Impressive teamfight mobility with Boosters.
  • Can mitigate significant amounts of enemy Hero damage with Defense Matrix.
  • Incredible damage and zoning potential with Self-Destruct.

Cons:

  • Mediocre waveclear.
  • No base-line crowd-control aside from knockback of Boosters.
  • Slow movement while Boosters is on cooldown.

Gameplay:

Both of her Heroics can only be used in Mech Mode. Her first Heroic is Bunny Hop. D.Va’s mech begins hopping up and down, dealing damage in an area around it. Every fourth hit against the same hero will stun them. Her other heroic is Micro Missiles, an ability with two charges that unleashes a barrage of missiles in an area in front of D.Va, slowing enemies they hit.

In Mech Mode, D.Va does not have access to a mount or equivalent ability; however, her Boosters have a low cooldown and can be used for transport. In Pilot Mode, she can use mounts as usual.

Gazlowe

Pros:

  • Empowers knight and giant camps if you push with them.
  • Great at controlling space.
  • Able to solo any merc camp (golems included) while taking very little damage.
  • Sets up heavy defenses around static objectives or for defense.

Cons:

  • Squishy, dies quickly if caught.
  • Much of his power comes from his team knowing how to take advantage of him.
  • Very little in the way of escape moves.

Gameplay:

Gazlowe is a Bruiser hero, who excels at guarding a location. Instead of Mana, Gazlowe uses Scrap, which is passively generated by his trait Reduce, Reuse, Recycle over time or salvaged from his destroyed turrets. His trait can also be activated to instantly dismantle a turret.

Rexxar

Pros:

  • Strong solo laner.
  • Decent crowd control.
  • High health pool on Misha.
  • Can easily clear Mercenary Camps on his own.

Cons:

  • Very weak if Misha dies.
  • No escape mechanisms before Level 16.
  • Lack of AoE damage, especially during the early-mid game.
  • Controlling Misha requires some practise.

Gameplay:

Rexxar is a hybrid character that combines the crowd control of a Bruiser with the strong damage potential of an Assassin. He is followed by his bear companion, named Misha, who fights alongside Rexxar and supports him in various ways throughout the game. Compared to other Bruisers, playing Rexxar is a unique experience since you have to control both him and Misha at the same time. Rexxar requires good micro management in order to unfold his maximum potential and, as such, he sometimes feels quite disappointing for newer players. Controlling Misha feels challenging at first. However, once the initial learning curve has been overcome, Rexxar’s strong chasing and kiting capabilities and the ability to stun multiple foes at the same time make him a force to be reckoned with.

Sonya

Pros:

  • Extremely strong duelist.
  • Great self-sustain through Whirlwind.
  • One of the highest single-target damage output potential in the game.
  • May quickly and safely solo claim any Mercenary Camp.
  • Outstanding solo laner.

Cons:

  • Extremely strong duelist.
  • Great self-sustain through Whirlwind.
  • Outstanding solo laner.
  • May quickly and safely solo claim any Mercenary Camp.
