THE CHAIN WARDEN
Role: Support | Difficulty: Moderate
Thresh’s Pros and Cons
- Effective Crowd Control.
- Good engage and peel.
- Great ganker/roamer.
- Playmaking potential.
- Scaling Armor/AP passively.
- Great escapability for others.
Thresh is a strong support who thrives off of locking down and displacing the enemy team. His ability to engage and secure kills, while being able to peel and disengage just as effectively is matched by few.
- Long cooldowns.
- Telegraphed CC.
- Skillshot reliant.
- Hard to master.
- Hard to play when behind.
- Needs ADC with lane presence.
Thresh does have his own share of downsides however. He is easily one of the hardest supports in the game, is easily punishable due to his lengthy cooldowns, and is susceptible to poke, as well as having a decent amount of counters.
Thresh can harvest the souls of enemies that die near him, permanently granting him Armor and Ability Power.
SKILL 1: DEATH SENTENCE
Thresh binds an enemy in chains and pulls them toward him. Activating this ability a second time pulls Thresh to the enemy.
SKILL 2: DARK PASSAGE
Thresh throws out a lantern that shields nearby allied Champions from damage. Allies can click the lantern to dash to Thresh.
SKILL 3: FLAY
Thresh’s attacks wind up, dealing more damage the longer he waits between attacks. When activated, Thresh sweeps his chain, knocking all enemies hit in the direction of the blow.
ULTIMATE: THE BOX
A prison of walls that slow and deal damage if broken.
Thresh’s Ability Order
Skill Order: Skill 1 > Skill 3 > Ultimate > Skill 2.
Combo 1: Skill 1 -> Skill 3
Combo 2: Skill 1 -> Ultimate -> Skill 3
Combo 3: Skill 1 -> Flash -> Skill 2 -> Skill 1 -> SKill 3
Thresh’s Tips & Tricks
Early game: Early laning phase, it is very important to try to beat the enemy team to level 2. In order to achieve level 2 in a shared experience lane, you need to clear the first wave of minions, and 3 melee minions from the second wave.
If you are confident that you will beat the enemy to level 2, start walking forward towards them as the last minion is about to die – that way you can engage while they think you are still level 1 – and level up mid engage, then you can proceed to throw a second ability and catch the opponents off guard.
Mid-Late game: During Mid Game, your intended job is to set up pick points around objective that are are coming up such as dragon, Rift Herald , Baron Nashor , etc. Sweeping and clearing the area and setting up wards/ Control Wards so that the enemy team is denied vision is your primary job. Once this is achieved, the enemy will be concerned if you are doing the objective or not (the trap is set!).
- Thresh is very susceptible to poke while his Death Sentence.
- Stay behind your minions, while he casts his DEATH SENTENCE.
- Punish him if he misses his hook.
- Standing on an enemy Thresh’s lantern can prevent enemies from using it.
- Try to poke him as he is about to collect soul.
- Disable (silence/stun/knock-up) or standing on the lantern will prevent the enemy from clicking on the lantern.
- Try to poke him as he is about to collect soul. Souls give him incredible power in late game
